The mission of the Building Trades Academy is simple: we help people in our community better their lives and their income by providing job training and placing them into careers. We work with people who are seeking a different career, to people who are just starting out in the workforce through our youth programs! The Building Trades Academy exists to help people who find themselves in a position where paying for education is not an option. We find funding or our students, making the program cost-free for participants that meet the eligibility requirements! Most of our students enter the program, study and work hard, and 12 short weeks later- find themselves working in a better job and earning a higher income.
Building Trades Academy of Tidewater Builders Association was one of 50 Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training programs established across the country in 1978 by the National Association of Home Builders to train economically disadvantaged, at-risk individuals in the building trades. Today, it is the only one left of its kind. We have helped more than 4,000 students build their better lives with the foundation that they received from the Building Trades Academy.
